Isaiah 55: 8-11(NIV)
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
There are times in the life of a believer when God speaks certain things about His plans for them. Usually they are good plans. We walk with a special gait knowing God has said something special to us. Then we expect those promises to begin to manifest, if not in full, then in bits and pieces. However in a lot of cases, they do not and that is where the problem begins.
We start to ask ourselves a lot of questions. How do we know God actually made those promises to us? How are we sure we were not speaking to ourselves? How long will it take? When Lord? We all know those questions. Sometimes we don’t see the promises until many years after the promises were made.
I went through such a phase recently. The Lord had said certain things to me many years ago. I fashioned my life around the things I believed He said to me. I was so sure of what I was doing. Then I began the wait and they just were not forthcoming. Recently I began to ask myself those questions. It’s been many years. I went back to my old notes where I wrote those things down and began to wonder-could I have spoken these things to myself? It’s been so long. After all I did not see God. I receive these things by faith. Maybe it was just me.
Then I look closely and see that there is a consistent line running through my notes. The things He spoke to me ran through the notes through the years. He consistently said the same things, sometimes in different manifestations but the same thing.
I checked out men of God whom He also spoke promises to-Abraham, David, Moses……the same trend-the promise-time-fulfillment. All kinds of things happened in between, but He always kept His word. Sometimes the individuals ran off on their own but He would eventually bring them back on course to the fulfillment of what He said.
I found encouragement from their lives and thought to share with you the fact that He has not changed His mind about you, about us. If He bothered to say it to you, then He will bring it to pass no matter how long it takes.
For some of us, it is not a spoken word, but some pearl you found in the Word for which you sold everything to get. You are standing on certain promises and they seem to elude you. The same principle applies. If your heart can still see it, then wait for it. It is only a matter of time for it to manifest. If it is not going away in your heart then the eternal Spirit of God in your heart is sustaining it there. We must be confident that what God said to us, He is not just able but wanting to give to us. It’s all a matter of timing.
I read so many versions of today’s text until I received His peace and rest and a certainty that He would bring His promises in my life to pass in His good time. I can wait since I now understand that timing is part of the equation. The fact that it is taking longer than I expected does not mean He changed His mind. He will do what He planned to do at the time He planned to do it. That is the bottom line.
Until such a time, He will take care of the other things that need to be taken care of because He is faithful. If He promised you prosperity, then He will continue to supply your need until the time of plenty comes. If He promised you a child, He will keep you from all the bad talk and stares and questions that come with childlessness. If He promised you a husband, He will be your companion and friend. He will keep you from all the talk and all the looks and questioning eyes. If He promised to heal you, He will keep you as you go through all the tests and medications and fears and so on. He will keep you. That’s how He is. He will look after you until the promise manifests. Let’s just hold on.
We are in this walk of faith together. Because He is not a respecter of persons, He will bring all His promises to all of us to pass. I believe so with every fiber of my being. I hope you do too. CK
