God’s Idea of Prosperity
I believe God works with us in times and seasons. Solomon agrees in Ecclesiastes 3:1, ‘To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose……’ I have experienced all kinds of seasons in my walk with God and I am sure you have too. If you look closely, you will see a beautiful map of your life, where these times and seasons draw a beautiful picture of God’s goodness and the person you have now become. They all work together for our good.
2013 is one of those seasons. It started on a high spiritual note. The entire Body of Christ seemed to be on this high note of expectation and I keyed into it. I sincerely believe we’re in the time of God’s showing, especially in the area of prosperity, when He wants to make a show of His Church. I also believe it is the beginning before the end, when the Church will be taken away. Prosperity is the area that looks like the sole reserve of the enemy and his people. But that is a lie from the pit of hell. Jesus paid for us to enter into God’s prosperity. He is about to shift things for His people.
We are almost a third through the year 2013, and I can see from the things going on in my life that God means business. I have been ‘hearing’ the sound of abundance and overflow for more than five years. Yet my experience has been far from abundance. In fact, my most recent experience was so far from it. It was difficult, trying and very uncomfortable. But I have never given up, what I believe is God’s revelation to me.
My only challenge has been renewing my mind to expect prosperity on the scale that God is speaking about. We talk about prosperity but so many of us think that prosperity means having our immediate needs met. If we can see it as a need, then we ask God, He does it and we call it prosperity. So I need a car, I ask for a nice one that can carry me from one place to the other then I am prospering. Yes, it is some kind of prosperity, but that is not what God is talking about.
By my understanding there are 3 levels of prosperity in the Bible. When Elijah got food from the ravens in the morning and in the evening, he was simply staying alive. When he got to the widow’s house, his needs were being met as they arose. So the cruise never ran out. But He eventually heard the sound of the abundance of rain. That is when the draught ended, the point of the overflow. (1 Kings 17, 18). Most of us are in the 2nd phase where our needs are met as they arise.
I believe when God talks about prosperity for His people, He is talking of an empowerment that comes from heaven to multiply. It goes beyond skills and what is happening in our world economies. It is an empowerment that attracts multiplication to you because you are connected to the divine Source. That empowerment prospers you so that you can also be a blessing.
Over the last five, six years, that is what I have done-opened my mind to what God calls prosperity. Isaiah 60 is one of those chapters in the Bible that shows us what He calls prosperity. It is mind boggling. The context of this chapter is that God is restoring Zion/Israel after a difficult time. In restoring Zion, He makes all these beautiful promises. We, the Body of Christ, have also seen difficult times with the world economy going crazy on us. This prosperity is God’s way of singling us out from the economic woes of the world and making us an end-time sign. The interpretation is my understanding of the chapter.
First He says to them, 1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. 2 See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you”. They were asleep, wallowing in the darkness that had covered them, unable to see what God wanted to do for them. He had to wake them up. We all need to wake up to God’s idea of prosperity. We need to get into His light, His Word on the matter.
Because God’s light has come, darkness flees. That light becomes a blessing to the world. We are blessed to be a blessing. “3 Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. 4 “Lift up your eyes and look about you: All assemble and come to you; your sons come from afar, and your daughters are carried on the hip. 5 Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come”.
If you understand that the Israeli economy in the Bible is basically agricultural, then see how much God has blessed them. He even brings gold and silver. This is just the beginning. “6 Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah. And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense and proclaiming the praise of the LORD. 7 All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will be accepted as offerings on my altar, and I will adorn my glorious temple…………9 Surely the islands look to me; in the lead are the ships of Tarshish, bringing your children from afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor”. He calls it an endowment with splendor. It is a function of our connection with Him. Splendor speaks of magnificence, majesty, grandeur, luxury.
There is an outpouring of His goodness from all sides as He brings His people back into His goodness. 10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. ….11 Your gates will always stand open, they will never be shut, day or night, so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations—their kings led in triumphal procession……..13 “The glory of Lebanon will come to you, the juniper, the fir and the cypress together, to adorn my sanctuary; and I will glorify the place for my feet. ……..I will make you the everlasting pride and the joy of all generations. 16 You will drink the milk of nations and be nursed at royal breasts. 17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler. Then you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob”.
The blessings come in all manners from all sides. The entire world seems to be set to bless His people. It is a spiritual power that empowers us to prosper. That we may know that it is of God and not ourselves. It is a function of His decision to bless us rather than how well we understand our economies or how smart we are to understand financial matters. That is why He said, “20 Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light……. They are the shoot I have planted, the work of my hands, for the display of my splendor. It is about times and seasons. His times and His seasons for us who are His people. He wants to show us off to the world. As His people.
He does not want us to be taken away without impacting the world. We have done faith in the face of the world. We have done miracles in the face of the world. We must do prosperity in their face. They must see us be a blessing. They must see us multiply exponentially. He says it like this, “22 The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation’.
He concludes, “I am the LORD; in its time I will do this swiftly.” I believe the time is now. Some people will say this is a prophesy for the Millennial Kingdom. It cannot be because Jesus will be the political leader of the world at the time and there will be no enemy nations. So I choose to receive it as something God means for us to have before the rapture. Maybe I am just being greedy and trying to cover it with spirituality. All I am trying to show is what God thinks of when He speaks of prosperity. In other words, don’t put limits on your thoughts when you think of prosperity. You can only receive what your mind can conjure. Open up your heart. Remove the Limits. Allow your mind to run free as you position yourself for what God has in store for all of us. He wants to shift attention from Hollywood to the Church.
There’s a song Israel Houghton did with Martha Munizzi. I have it on my playlist on my phone. I listen to it all the time. It’s part of the renewing my mind process that I have put myself through. It goes like this
It’s a new season, It’s a new day, A fresh anointing, Coming my way, It’s a season of power, And prosperity, It’s a new season, It’s coming to me.
It’s my song and will be till I see what He sees. Please sing along with me. Ck
