11 The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
Many years ago, a friend gave me a cassette with a song which had the words of today’s verse. It brought me great comfort at a very low time of my life. I had just lost my Mum and nine month old daughter, within a six month interval. It was a very dark time of my life. It was at that time I would play the song again and again. That is how I learnt this verse.
As 2011, another very low period of my life, came to an end, and 2012 dawned, the Holy Spirit brought this verse to my remembrance again. I took a close look at the words yet again and they gave me fresh hope for a new start. The Lord promises to guide me always, continually. He will show me the way to go. When you know where you’re going, this promise may not mean anything, but when you have several things beckoning on you to follow them, this promise becomes a lifeline.
When you have everything you need and everything you touch turns to gold, then His satisfying your need in a sun scorched land, is of no consequence. But when you have worried about provision, when you have worked and expected returns that were not forthcoming, then you begin to understand the need for God to satisfy your needs in a dry land.
I love this next part of the promise. I live in a compound with lots of grounds and a well watered garden- It is lucious green. Whenever my husband wants to think, he goes out to the garden. The grass feels good under your feet. There’s a feeling of peace, that comes with it. it makes me wonder what the garden of Eden was like. There is something about a well watered garden. And that is what God says i will be. Well watered. Well taken care of. exuding the peace of God. Giving comfort and hope to those who come to me. isn’t that wonderful.
I don’t know about you, but I have experienced dry, uncertain and fearful times. If you are like me, then find comfort, just like I did and still do, in the promises of God this morning. When He said this to me after my daughter’s death, I held unto it. I had to hold on. This verse meant everything. Now, many years later, He has blessed me with four beautiful children-1 boy and three girls. The good thing is that we are dealing with the God of all creation. He created it all and has great plans for us. He knows our future. So we can trust Him to keep every word He has spoken to us. he always keeps His word. CK
