The Word

Ephesians 1:3-14 NKJV

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

The Message

I find it difficult to decide which is more important in the Christian calendar, Christmas or Easter. Then I tell myself, if Jesus had not been born, there would be no Easter. So as important as Easter is, Christmas had to take place first.

But really, Easter is the basis for all the claims we make as Christians: that Jesus Christ died, rose and ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. The perfect and finished work of the Cross set the church in motion. Every time I read the first chapter of Ephesians I get excited at what the Cross accomplished for us as believers.

In Him, the risen Christ, we who believe in Him

  • Were chosen before the foundations of the world
  • are blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places
  • are holy and without blame
  • have been adopted as sons and daughters
  • are accepted
  • redeemed through his blood
  • have forgiveness of sin
  • grace abounds toward us in wisdom and prudence
  • have an inheritance with all the saints
  • we are sealed with the Holy Spirit until we are completely redeemed when we go to be with Him.
  • He works all things concerning us after the counsel of his will

What more could we ask? Everything seems to have been taken care of right from the source-The sin issue and all its consequences. The
Message version says it like this, ‘He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need”. That is why this season should inspire us to rise above our circumstances and rejoice in what Christ accomplished for us on the Cross. There is no situation in our lives that the power of the Cross, the Resurrection Power, cannot take care of. It will fall under one or the other of the list above. There is a rising up again for the believer because of the Power that works in us. We must never forget that. It becomes the basis for the life we have in Christ Jesus. Jesus is risen from the dead. That just makes me want to get up and go. Halleluya. Ck
